Air Planes
Suspended Transparent Colored Lucite, Aircraft Cables, Reflected Light
36 1/4 in. h x 23in. w x 5-6in. d 1984
Thinking about a transparent painting seen from its front and back, I utilized
colored transparent Lucite to create a suspension of organic forms in Air Planes.
Molds were made in wood, covered with flannel, to shape the hollow edge after the
Lucite was heated. I attached these hollow constructions in relief to both sides of
the 1/4 in. thick plane of the suspended "painting" surface. Smaller shapes
suspended off some of these hollow forms.
